Before booking your next hotel stay, ask this often-overlooked question: “Are there any upcoming renovations or special events planned during my visit?” Doing so can help you avoid noisy surprises, secure the best room location, and potentially unlock upgrades or perks.
The One Question I Always Ask Hotels Before I Book for a Client
When it comes to booking hotels, most people look at price, location, and star ratings. Those are important, of course—but as a travel advisor, I’ve learned that one simple question can make the difference between a stay that’s just “fine” and one that’s truly unforgettable.
So, what’s the question?
“Are there any upcoming renovations or special events scheduled during my client’s stay?”
It sounds simple, but this single question can completely change your travel experience. Here’s why:
Why This Question Matters
Peace and Quiet: Imagine arriving at your dream beach resort only to find the pool under construction or the lobby filled with scaffolding. Asking ahead helps avoid noisy surprises.
Room Location: Renovations or events may mean certain wings are closed, or rooms face construction zones. With advance notice, I can request the best location for your comfort.
Special Access: Sometimes, renovations bring upgrades. Hotels may offer complimentary perks, room upgrades, or dining credits to make up for inconveniences—perks I can negotiate for my clients.
Events Impact: A local festival, conference, or even a large wedding on-site can affect availability, amenities, and even the overall vibe of your stay. Knowing ahead means we can plan around it (or even embrace it, if it’s something you’d enjoy!).
The Difference an Insider Makes
Most travelers never think to ask this question—but I do, every single time. It’s just one of the ways I make sure my clients avoid the “surprise factor” and instead enjoy a smooth, seamless, and elevated travel experience.
When you book online, you’re left to roll the dice. When you book with me, I ask the questions you don’t know you should be asking—and that often means better rooms, special perks, and a more enjoyable trip.
✨ Travel Tip Tuesday Takeaway: Never assume that the glossy hotel photos online tell the full story. Always ask what’s happening at the property during your dates. Better yet, let me do the asking for you—I know how to get the right answers (and sometimes even extra perks).
